The entire unit of work has been placed onto an online program called Weebly. This enables students or parents to access the unit from home. Embedded in this program is the online discussion forum whereby students will be able to reflect on the learning progress throughout the unit either in class or for homework. This will provide opportunity for assessment, as the teacher will be able to track student understanding overtime.

Annotation: This novel, based on a true story provides an insight into the life of a Vietnamese girl who leaves her country to live in America. Whilst this unit of work incorporates only the first poem, there is opportunity to link this to an entire literacy unit of work. The novel is structured in a series of short poems, which are easy to understand and provide a personal perspective.

It is a DVD Resource Kit, however, teachers can access the documents containing the different topics regarding Australia and the Vietnam War. Students can explore this significant period in Australia history from 1962 to 1973, through various images, film, and various excerpts.
