Activity:
- Read page 1-3 from Inside Out and Back Again relating to the Vietnamese New Year. In groups, students will investigate a designated celebration using online resources.
- The students should collate their data onto the mind map (See BLM 5) and then allocate one person to represent their group via ‘Student in Role’ which allows the student to take the perspective of a Vietnamese person celebrating a particular celebration explaining customs, traditions, food consumed and feelings towards the celebration. There will be opportunities for members of the audience to ask questions as well as the ‘student in role’ to ask questions to ensure that the audience are listening.
- Students will access the online forum where they will be able to blog the different things they learn at the conclusion of this lesson.
Assessment Opportunities:
- Students will be assessed based on their participation in class discussion
- Work samples (mind map) will be assessed based on the organisation of information and the relevant
- Students ‘in-role’ will be assessed by observation on their ability to present the information that their group has researched
- Students listening will be assessed on their ability to retain information and answer questions at the end of each presentation.
